Specialist Apprentice Programme (SAP) Heritage Stone Masonry
The 20 day course plus assessment is designed to provide practical skills and theoretical knowledge to candidates who are preparing to specialise in Heritage Skills - Masonry within the Heritage sector. Learners will be in a position to demonstrate the competence of their skills whilst working on Listed Buildings,Pre-1919 buildings and similar formsof traditional construction i.e.‘appropriate workplaces’.
This SAP provides the opportunity to gain key underpinning knowledge and in-depth understanding in the relevant areas together with practical instruction in many elements including (guided) learner participation, the demonstration of specialist techniques and the provision of strategically targeted up-skilling support aiming to progress learners to the full Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Heritage Skills (Construction) - Masonry.
Delivery of this course is divided between classroom/ lecture sessions,w orkshop modules covering setting-out then erecting complex masonry structures and lime mortars with site visits to appropriate Heritage Projects where learners will be able to observe relevant workplace activities as wellas receiving the Trainer– Guided practical elements essential to make progression to the Diploma.
